the sign of etsy.com

Our second concepts I project was to create new zodiac signs based on issues of the 21st century.  We were split into groups for this assignment, and my group chose to do The Age of the Internet.  Each of us picked a website and had to not literally illustrate the site, but more or less create a kind of world representing it.  I decided to do etsy.com and focused mainly on the crafty aspect of the people who use the website.  So, this is an illustration of an etsy hipster knitting her world :)

character design!

For my class Advanced Character Design we are working in groups for the semester on a faux project about an existing story set to either a video game, an animated film, or a live action movie.  My group is the animated film group and we are doing a Japanese story about an 8 headed snake, the village he torments, and the god turned hero who saves them. For the first assignment we had to do character designs for the secondary characters of the story.  I did designs for villagers and monsters.  Our teacher, acting as both the client and the art director, chose one of my designs for me to bring to a colored finish.  He chose number 26. Since the design was rather generic I re-vamped the costume and put it on number 18. This made the design much more interesting :)

baked dough balls

For the first assignment in Concepts 1 we were given a menu from a pizza place and had to choose one of the items on it for a cover illustration. We were told not to simply illustrate the food and had to stay away from cliches. I chose to illustrate baked dough balls as "sheep" being shepherded. This color pallet was as challenge for me because it dealt with warmer colors, which I'm not used to.  :)
